Macy’s has decided to boycott Ivanka Trump’s products.
Other retailers have or will go the same route.
Nordstrom is smart.
They believe selling products outweighs politics.
What a concept!
From BizPac Review:
Unlike other department stores that have chosen to boycott products by Ivanka Trump, Nordstrom has announced it will not cave in to politics over sales results.
Products by the president-elect’s daughter have been dropped by some retailers as customers have joined the #GrabYourWallet movement, boycotting retailers that carry Ivanka Trump or Trump Organization products, according to Fortune.
But Nordstrom, caught in the middle with customers on both sides of the debate, said it is not making retail decisions based on political movements.
The company’s co-president Pete Nordstrom sent an email to employees on Monday reaffirming the retailer’s intention to keep selling the Ivanka Trump brand.
More from Fortune:
Ultimately, Nordstrom went on, “Every single brand we offer is evaluated on their results—if people don’t buy it, we won’t sell it.” And since the Ivanka Trump brand, he wrote, “has grown to be a sizable and successful business,” Nordstrom has concluded that it’s not worth jettisoning, even if some of its customers feel passionately that it should.
But at least one employee had a different response, suggesting that companies will have to grapple not only with divided customers, but divided workers, too: “Working for a company that doesn’t take a stand on these issues, and chooses profit, is not something that makes me feel great about where I sell my talent. I’ll be updating my resume this week.”
