One of the most important promises Donald Trump made during his campaign was to look after our veterans.
It is shocking that the men and women who put their lives on the line for our freedoms, suffered injuries and mental duress, would be neglected when they need our help the most. Yet that has been the reality for years. Our veterans are deprived basic healthcare and other support, while the Department of Veterans Affairs has squandered millions of dollars.
But that is all about to end. With President Trump now in office, he will make drastic changes to how the VA operates, making sure every last veteran receives the care they deserve.
Already we are learning about how Trump is cleaning up this despicably corrupt agency.
From Daily Caller:
Two notoriously corrupt employees in Puerto Rico were fired this week, indicating that more may be on the way.
One is the hospital’s CEO, DeWayne Hamlin, who offered an employee $305,000 to quit after she played a role in exposing his drug arrest.
“Mr. DeWayne Hamlin was removed from federal service effective January 20, 2017”–inauguration day–the VA said…
The other person fired recently is a woman who took part in an armed robbery, then kept her job while she was in jail, and continued to work in the hospital’s security office while wearing an ankle bracelet.
The amount of incompetence and corruption that has been going on in the VA is simply unacceptable. The fact that these kinds of things were going on–while our former President did nothing–cannot be excused.
Under former Secretary of Veterans Affairs Bob McDonald, the agency ignored years of evidence about shoddy work ethic, theft and whistleblower retaliation. The VA finally began a months-long investigative proceeding last year, after an outside agency, the Office of Special Counsel, prodded VA leadership.
This is an agency responsible for our veterans. For our fathers, brothers, sisters, and grandfathers who put their lives on the line for all of us. Yet our very government looked the other way when the agency that was supposed to aid them committed horrendous criminal acts.
There have been countless stories of VA hospitals neglecting patients on waiting lists, stealing money and fabricating reports, hiring criminals and child pornographers. The depths of corruption staggers belief.
But all that is over. President Trump will make protecting our veterans a top priority. They will get the care and respect they richly deserve.
