According to a Russian ally of President Vladimir Putin who declares himself as ultra-nationalist, not voting for Donald Trump puts Americans at the brink of a new nuclear war. Vladimir Zhirinovskiy, a fiery veteran lawmaker recently told Reuters in an interview that Trump is the only man who can calm the escalating tensions between Russia and the USA. As Zhirinovskiy says, if America elects Hillary Clinton as President, it could spell the beginning of World War Three. He was recently awarded a top state award by Vladimir Putin after his party (LDPR) came third in the Russian parliamentary elections last month.
Zhirinovskiy is regarded as a clown, but a faithful servant to the Kremlin and Putin himself. “Relations between Russia and the United States can’t get any worse. The only way they can get worse is if a war starts. Americans voting for a president on Nov. 8 must realize that they are voting for peace on Planet Earth if they vote for Trump. But if they vote for Hillary it’s war. It will be a short movie. There will be Hiroshimas and Nagasakis everywhere,”Zhirinovskiy said recently.
His comments are probably true, seeing how deep the disagreements between Moscow and Washington became over the recent situation in Syria and Ukraine. Just last week, the White House accused Russia of a recent series of cyber attacks. Even when WikiLeaks released another part of internal documents from Clinton’s campaign, the Russian leader denied any wrongdoing.
Zhirinovskiy often shocks the public opinion and scorns the West which he considers decadent, hypocritical and corrupted. His style is similar to Trump, and allows him plenty of television air time as well as millions of votes, primarily from blue-collar workers, who are also at the base of Trump’s support.
Some time ago, Zhirinovskiy proposed blocking off Muslim southern Russia with a fence, similar to the proposition of Trump for a wall along the USA-Mexico border. He said he met the current Republican candidate in 2002 in New York, and is often compared to the American thanks to their same age and views. He even said that he wants a DNA test to see if he’s related to Trump.
However, he differs from Trump by having a vast political experience – he has been sitting in the Duma for more than 20 years.
It’s not just Zhirinovskiy who admires Trump – even Putin himself has praised the Republican candidate as a very talented person, who thanked him and said that he considers him a better leader than the American President Barack Obama. This led to Hillary Clinton accusing Trump of being too cozy and close to Putin.
Trump has also questioned the value of NATO for Washington, and spoke ambiguously about Russia’s 2014 annexation of Crimea. He also suggested that he would adopt an isolationist foreign policy if elected. “He (Trump) won’t care about Syria, Libya and Iraq and why on earth should America interfere in these countries? And Ukraine. Who needs Ukraine?” said Zhirinovsky, who was close to Muammar Gadaffi and Saddam Hussein in the past. “Trump will have a brilliant chance to make relations more peaceful … He’s the only one who can do this.”
Clinton “craves power”
Zhirinovskiy describes Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton as an “evil mother-in-law” and says that her record under the Obama administration shows she is unfit for a leader. “She craves power. Her view is that Hillary is the most important person on the planet, that America is an exceptional country, as Barack Obama said,” said Zhirinovsky. “That’s dangerous. She could start a nuclear war.” He continued by sharing his chauvinistic views: “Most Americans should choose Trump because men have been leading for millions of years. You can’t take the risk of having one of the richest, most powerful countries led by a woman president.”
Asked about the recent leak of Trump’s 2005 comments about women, Zhirinovskiy took a defensive position by saying that men sometimes speak like that in front of other men, and that Trump should be considered solely on his political and business qualities.
Though Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump have never officially met, Zhirinovskiy says that they could establish a great relationship. “Victory for Trump would be a gift to humanity. But if Hillary Clinton wins it will be the last U.S. president ever,” he says.
